BPC-157
Overview
BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide (15 amino acids) derived from a protective protein found in human gastric juice. It promotes angiogenesis via upregulation of VEGF and EGF, modulates nitric oxide (NO) synthesis, and accelerates actin filament formation. Studied in animal models for tendon and ligament healing, gut mucosal repair (inflammatory bowel conditions), and systemic anti-inflammatory effects. Mechanism appears systemic when administered peripherally. Published animal research has used doses in the range of 10 mcg/kg body weight; a Phase II clinical trial is currently recruiting (NCT07437547). Human clinical data is limited. Consult a licensed physician before use.

What Experts Say
“"BPC-157 promotes angiogenesis — the formation of new blood vessels — which is the key mechanism behind its tissue repair effects"”
Huberman explains BPC-157 as a synthetic peptide modeled after a naturally occurring peptide found in gastric juices. It promotes tissue repair primarily by enhancing angiogenesis via upregulation of VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) and ENOS. It also encourages fibroblast migration at wound sites. Evidence is strong in animal models but human clinical trial data remains scarce.
“"You do not need to inject BPC-157 at the injury site — it works systemically throughout the body"”
BPC-157 works systemically — injection does not need to be at the injury site. Subcutaneous injection shows better results than oral administration, though oral BPC-157 may benefit gut-related issues specifically. Huberman notes strong anecdotal support for tendon and muscle repair despite lack of rigorous human studies.
“"If you have a tumor...by taking BPC-157, you may be accelerating the growth of that tumor"”
Standard dosing: 300–500 mcg subcutaneously 2–3× per week. Typical course: ~8 weeks on, 8–10 weeks off. Critical safety warning: BPC-157 promotes angiogenesis via VEGF upregulation, which could accelerate existing tumor growth. Huberman strongly recommends physician oversight and sourcing only from compounding pharmacies with verified LPS removal.
“"Still BPC 157, TB 500, you know, ipamorelin and stuff like that, like, the same stuff that I've always used before"”
Derek (MPMD) describes BPC-157 as part of his go-to recovery stack while healing from severe back pain and sciatica caused by shooting an 84-pound compound bow ~100 times daily over 3 months. He uses BPC-157 together with TB-500 and Ipamorelin as his standard protocol — "nothing new."
