GHK-Cu

Peptide Evidence: limited

Overview

GHK-Cu is a naturally occurring tripeptide (Glycine-Histidine-Lysine) bound to copper (Cu²⁺), first identified in human plasma in 1973. Plasma levels decline ~60% between ages 20 and 60. Mechanistically, GHK-Cu stimulates fibroblast synthesis of collagen types I, III, and IV; increases elastin and glycosaminoglycan production; upregulates growth factors (FGF, PDGF, TGF-β); and exerts antioxidant effects via superoxide dismutase activation. Research at the Broad Institute found GHK-Cu modulated approximately 31% of the human genome toward a regenerative, anti-inflammatory expression pattern. Clinical evidence exists for topical application (skin aging, wound healing); systemic injectable evidence is predominantly preclinical. Topical cosmetic use is widely available; injectable form is a research compound. Consult a licensed physician before systemic use.
