Krill-Öl

Oil Evidence: moderate

Overview

Krill oil (Euphausia superba) provides EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids in phospholipid form with superior bioavailability vs. fish oil. Contains astaxanthin as natural antioxidant. A meta-analysis of 5 RCTs found no significant benefit for knee pain or lipid profiles, but small improvement in joint physical function (SMD −0.24). Cardiovascular evidence extrapolated from fish oil. Generally well tolerated. Contraindicated in shellfish allergy. Additive antiplatelet effect with anticoagulants. Contains less absolute EPA+DHA per capsule than fish oil — verify dosing.
