Semaglutide
Overview
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonist with 94% structural homology to human GLP-1. It stimulates insulin secretion, suppresses glucagon release, slows gastric emptying, and reduces appetite via central hypothalamic mechanisms. FDA-approved as Ozempic (weekly subcutaneous injection for type 2 diabetes) and Wegovy (for chronic weight management). Maintenance doses in Phase III trials ranged from 0.5–2 mg weekly (Ozempic) and up to 2.4 mg weekly (Wegovy). INTERACTION RELEVANT FOR STACKS: slows gastric emptying significantly — may delay and reduce absorption of oral supplements and medications taken at the same time. Large Phase III STEP/SUSTAIN trials demonstrated up to 15–17% body weight reduction. Prescription pharmaceutical only. Consult a licensed physician.
