Thymosin Alpha-1
Overview
Thymosin Alpha-1 (Tα1) is a naturally occurring 28-amino acid peptide derived from the thymus gland, first isolated in the 1970s. Tα1 promotes maturation of CD4+ and CD8+ T-cells, activates dendritic cells, enhances NK cell activity, and balances cytokine production. Approved in 35+ countries as Thymalfasin/Zadaxin at 1.6 mg (1600 mcg) administered subcutaneously twice weekly for hepatitis B/C and as a cancer immunotherapy adjuvant. A 2025 BMJ RCT (PMID 39814420, n=1,041) demonstrated significantly reduced 28-day mortality in sepsis. With over 800 clinical studies worldwide, it carries the strongest clinical evidence base among commonly studied longevity-oriented peptides. Not approved in Germany or most EU countries as a supplement; approved pharmaceutical in 35+ other countries. Consult a licensed physician before use.
