Tirzepatide
Overview
Tirzepatide is a synthetic dual agonist of both GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) receptors. FDA-approved as Mounjaro (NDA215866, type 2 diabetes) and Zepbound (chronic weight management). Approved dose range in Phase III trials: 2.5 mg weekly as a starting dose, titrated up to 15 mg weekly; SURMOUNT trials demonstrated up to 22.5% mean body weight reduction. INTERACTION RELEVANT FOR STACKS: dual GLP-1/GIP receptor activation slows gastric emptying significantly — may delay and reduce absorption of all oral supplements and medications; take oral medications at least 1 hour before or as directed by a physician. Additive hypoglycemic risk if combined with insulin or sulfonylureas. Prescription pharmaceutical only. Consult a licensed physician.
