CBD (Cannabidiol)
Overview
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive phytocannabinoid from Cannabis sativa. The only FDA-approved CBD product is Epidiolex® (seizure disorders). As a dietary supplement, regulatory status is contested: a 2024 review notes CBD products do not meet safety standards of most food safety authorities. Product quality and consistency are highly variable. CBD inhibits CYP450 enzymes (CYP2C9, CYP2C19, CYP3A4), affecting metabolism of many medications including warfarin, anticonvulsants, and immunosuppressants.
