Myo-Inositol
Overview
Myo-inositol is a cyclic sugar alcohol and precursor to phosphatidylinositol, a secondary messenger in insulin and FSH signaling. Most studied for PCOS — improves insulin sensitivity, oocyte quality, and hormonal parameters. A 2025 comparative analysis found myo-inositol has a more favorable safety profile than metformin. Very well tolerated; mild GI effects at high doses. No established upper limit. Often combined with D-chiro-inositol (40:1 ratio). Theoretical interaction with lithium (bipolar medication) via inositol metabolism pathway.

“more recently, I've also started using inositol, in particular myo-inositol. Every other night, I'll take 900 milligrams of myo-inositol... I found that to be immensely beneficial... it has a pretty long tail of anxiety suppression throughout the day”
Huberman takes 900 mg myo-inositol every other night, 30–60 minutes before sleep, finding it significantly helps with returning to sleep after waking in the night. He also notes a daytime carryover of anxiety buffering and stress resilience, and has integrated it alongside his standard sleep stack.
