Ubiquinol
Overview
Ubiquinol (C59H92O4, CID 9962735) is the fully reduced, active antioxidant form of Coenzyme Q10 (vs. ubiquinone, the oxidized form). Acts as direct electron donor in mitochondrial complexes I–III and IV, and as membrane-bound lipid-soluble antioxidant preventing LDL oxidation and improving endothelial function via nitric oxide restoration. Bioavailability ~2–8× higher than ubiquinone powder formulations due to direct absorption without reduction step. RCT at 100–200 mg/day for 8 weeks significantly improved flow-mediated dilation in dyslipidemic subjects. INTERACTIONS: statin drugs directly deplete CoQ10/ubiquinol levels — supplementation may mitigate statin-associated myopathy risk; potential synergy with other antioxidants. No major drug interactions documented. Well-tolerated; rare GI upset >500 mg/day.

Key Interactions
3 verified interactions found
Ubiquinol regenerates oxidized Vitamin E (tocopheroxyl radical) back to active alpha-tocopherol. This recycling extends Vitamin E's antioxidant capacity in cell membranes.
