Resveratrol
Overview
trans-Resveratrol (C14H12O3) is a stilbenoid polyphenol activating SIRT1 and AMPK with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. A meta-analysis of 23 RCTs found resveratrol significantly reduced waist circumference (−1.93 cm) in overweight individuals but had no significant effect on weight, BMI, fat mass, adiponectin, or leptin. Oral bioavailability is very low (~1%); micronized or liposomal forms improve absorption. CYP3A4/CYP2C9 inhibitor — caution with statins, warfarin, cyclosporine. Mild phytoestrogenic activity — caution in hormone-sensitive conditions.

“"I was saying the Resveratrol stuff was garbage for 10 years before people believed it. I'm pretty convinced there's no reason to believe it affects the biology of aging or as a longevity drug."”
Peter Attia and longevity scientists (Dr. Richard Miller, Dr. Matt Kaeberlein) are unanimously skeptical of resveratrol. The roundtable opens with "can we say anything positive?" — the answer is no. Peter notes he was calling it garbage for 10 years and adds: "I'm pretty convinced there's no reason to believe it affects the biology of aging." The famous mouse lifespan study turned out to be a methodological artifact — mice died of lung compression from fat-swollen livers, not aging.
