A meta-analysis found green tea extract significantly reduced body weight (-1.78 kg), BMI (-0.64 kg/m2), and waist circumference (-1.93 cm). EFSA safety limit: 338 mg EGCG/day from supplements to minimize hepatotoxicity risk — doses >800 mg associated with liver damage. Bioavailability enhanced when taken fasted. Inhibits non-heme iron absorption.
