Alpha-lipoic acid
Overview
Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA, C8H14O2S2) is a mitochondrial cofactor and both water- and fat-soluble antioxidant, regenerating glutathione and vitamins C and E. A systematic review of 76 clinical studies found ALA demonstrated consistent efficacy for pain reduction in diabetic neuropathy. Also studied for metabolic syndrome and blood glucose. Well tolerated; may lower blood glucose — caution with diabetes medications. R-ALA is more bioavailable than racemic mixtures. No established upper limit.

View details →EGCG combined with alpha-lipoic acid shows greater anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects than EGCG alone.
