Rutin
Overview
Rutin (C27H30O16) is the glycoside form of quercetin found in buckwheat, apples, and citrus, with antioxidant, capillary-strengthening (vitamin P activity), anti-inflammatory, antiplatelet, and phlebotonic properties. A Cochrane review of phlebotonics (including rutin derivatives) for chronic venous insufficiency found moderate-certainty evidence of slight edema reduction. Quercetin is released from rutin via gut microbiota (variable). CYP3A4/CYP2C9 inhibitor — monitor with anticoagulants and drug interactions. Inhibits non-heme iron absorption.
