Zink
Overview
Zinc is an essential trace mineral acting as a cofactor for over 200 enzymes, supporting immune function, wound healing, DNA synthesis, and cell division. Men need 11 mg daily; women 8 mg. The upper limit is 40 mg per day. Chronic high-dose supplementation (50+ mg) can deplete copper, causing neurological symptoms and anemia. Take zinc supplements 2–6 hours apart from quinolone or tetracycline antibiotics.

Key Interactions

High-dose zinc supplementation (>25-50mg/day) competitively inhibits copper absorption via metallothionein induction and DMT1 transporter competition. Chronic high zinc depletes copper stores, causing deficiency anemia, neurological symptoms, and impaired immune function
If taking >25mg zinc daily, supplement 1-2mg copper to prevent deficiency. Maintain zinc:copper ratio ~8-15:1. Monitor copper levels annually.
View details →Hochdosierte Zinkeinnahme (>40 mg/Tag über Wochen/Monate) führt zu Kupfermangel durch Metallothionein-Induktion. Klinisch dokumentierte Folgen: Ataxie, Myelopathie, Anämie, Leukopenie durch Zink-induzierten Kupfermangel.
Bei Zinkdosen >25 mg/Tag Kupferstatus beobachten (Serum-Kupfer, Coeruloplasmin). Bei Langzeit-Hochdosierung (>40 mg/Tag) prophylaktische Kupfer-Supplementierung (Verhältnis ~10:1 Zink:Kupfer). Kupfer und Zink zeitversetzt einnehmen.

Separate by 2 hours if taking high doses.
View details →Zinc is required for Vitamin A mobilization from liver stores and for the synthesis of retinol-binding protein. Zinc deficiency impairs Vitamin A transport and utilization even when Vitamin A stores are adequate.
Ensure adequate zinc status when supplementing Vitamin A. Can be taken together.
1–2 Stunden Abstand). In Multivitaminpräparaten mit physiologischen Mischungsdosen klinisch weniger relevant.
